35-Year-Old Phoenix Bicyclist Killed By Suspected Drunk Driver

A 35-year-old bicyclist was killed by a suspected drunken driver Saturday night in a collision that took place near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

According to Phoenix police spokesman, Officer James Holmes, officers responded to a report of a collision at about 7:30 that involved a car and a bike.

As officers arrived at the scene, they learned that the bicyclist was traveling across the street. He was not using a crosswalk when the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe struck him from behind.

The bicyclist was transported to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries, told Holmes. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence as he showed signs of impairment. However, he was later released.

The identity of the bicyclist was not immediately released by the police.
